Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyone :)
Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples.  While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational.  What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity.  While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree.  That includes some of the following:

As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!
I've been reflecting on the year and like many, with some focus on the unimaginable events of the last few weeks. Specifically, the shooting in Newtown.  I know that it's "human nature" to want to find

I'm loving jars this month. I'm not sure why, other than the fact that I saw some set up at a craft fair that I had a table at, and I just fell in love with them. A couple of large jars with some fairy lights nestled in them - the effect was immense. It was so simple too! Sadly the people weren't actually selling the lights, but once I'd made a little profit on my sales, I went over clutching my ten pound note and picked out a few. So I was delighted to see that on Flipboard today, there was an article exploring 19 great photos of jars. If you're stuck for inspiration, grab a jam jar (take the jam out first maybe) and start shooting. Shoot things through them, around them, in them - get creative! Jars are awesome. :D

Calendar Project 2012

Project Educate Update!





I have now scheduled the deviantART Related Project Educate over two weeks, over this time I will educate you guys as much as I can. Not many people understand or consider dA Related as a real gallery, and I'm out to teach them otherwise.

January 21st, 2013 to February 3rd, 2013


I have scheduled each Friday of both weeks to be a Community Day, where you guys can educate the community by writing about something dA Related. If you want to write something, please send me a note. :D


New Gallery Descriptions



Over this past year, the #communityrelations team has been working on a Gallery Description Project. A project dedicated to updating every gallery description on deviantART. A few weeks ago, the dA Related gallery's descriptions were updated and made live.
