Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing HalloweenHalloween brings with it the chance to combine many areas of Photography whether you are presented with a field of pumpkins, decorated houses, close up spooky food creations or indeed infants and children adorned in the cutest of costumes. In terms of vibrancy, fall/Autumn and Halloween combine wonderfully to create a time of color, emotion and interesting subjects. So it's often difficult to know where to start, but the key elements behind arming yourself with the camera don't differ that much from how you should behave day to day when shooting.

Halloween is about the drama and you can capture this and convey it in your images by getting in close and filling a frame with your subject. People or objects alike, getting in close will add a bit more drama to your shots. As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!

I don't know about you, but Light Painting has to be really unique and awesome in order to impress me. So when I stumbled across the work of Darren Pearson aka Darren Twin - I was astounded at the creativity and simple methods used to create his conceptual photographic pieces. Darren creates LED pictures of Skeletons Skateboarding, dancing and living - exploring what the Mail Online has termed as the bare bones of our daily lives. And it really is precisely that. Darren takes the ordinary, the mundane and the normal of everyday life and lights it up by night by painting bones. Check it out for yourself. Darkroom Exposed: HDRDarkroom Exposed is a series of articles highlighting talented deviants, noteworthy art and helpful information all about the Photography > Darkroom gallery on dA.
This issue features HDR (high dynamic range) photography, which allows for a greater dynamic range (variation between the light and dark areas) than regular photography. This can have a range of effects, between creating an image more like what you see with your eyes and depicting hyper-real results with a painterly feeling.
Some digital cameras can shoot HDR in-camera but HDR images can also be created using digital editing software with multiple exposures of the same scene. 'Fake' HDR can also be created from just one exposure. Here are some beautiful examples of HDR photography...

Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing AutumnFor many Photographers, Autumn is now officially here and is one of the most exciting seasons to capture in terms of colour, change and vistas. Early morning mist, late afternoon sun, orange, red and golden hues - Autumn has a lot to offer in many countries. If you're like me, Autumn often arrives all at once and it can be tricky to know how to make the best of the season before it's over. A couple of days of high winds and rain can ruin the best Autumnal captures by ripping the leaves down before you've even got the chance to snap - so it's great to be prepared for the season.

Leading lines are particularly useful. Yet so many people quote ' Look for leading lines...' or 'You've captured the leading lines here perfectly' and really do we even know properly what they are? In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category.  It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy
