`uae4u
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
HelloMy name is Omran AlShamsi, AKA: Narmo. I am 19 years old and I live in the UAE. Currently studying Computer Engineering and I have a big interest in programming. I love learning new languages (in computer), but I'd also love to learn languages such as Spanish or French. I play video games and also Football (Soccer)
I used to read a lot, but not much these days. I should start reading again
`uae4u, how did you find deviantART?
I was active on a local anime forum, and one of the members mentioned that she was a member at deviantART, so I thought I'd check it out. It looked like a nice site, and I registered. I didn't know what dA was all about, except that members would display their art in their galleriesI started to look around more and I began to like dA.
How did you get your username?
lol, it's a random username. Well, uae is where I am from. But don't ask me what uae 4 u means
What do you like most about deviantART?
Mostly everything about it, but I will mention some. The community is so great. I have met so many people and I have many friends here. Generally, people are always willing to help each other. The staff also are great people. I don't understand why anyone would talk bad of them, because if you'll get to know them, you'll realize how respectful and hardworking people they are. Well, anywhere you go there are the trolls and the rude people, but generally I am glad that most people I've met were nice and friendly. And I always think that if you respect the others, no matter who they are, you will be respected back
There's no doubt that the art displayed on dA is one of the things I like most about dA. Actually, It's the beautiful gallery dA has that made me want to become a photographer in the first place. Browsing through this marvelous art inspires me every day to produce better photos and to become a better photographer. Not to mention the numerous articles and tutorials related to photography or any other medium that helps a person develop their skills.
Are there any deviantART features that you have never used?
Well, I haven't tried the dA portfolios yet, but I plan to. I also don't draw in comments or use deviantART muro that much, although they are definitely cool features
How old were you when you first became interested in art?
I can't remember, but I know that I was very young when I started drawing. I was very interested in drawing and coloring, and I enjoyed my Art classes a lot. Shading was my thing, and now I just doodle in classesI had the support from the family. My mother used to encourage me to explore this art more, and she is a good drawer actually. I participated in a few competitions too.
Then eventually I became interested in photography, and that was in 2005. I was 13 years old. At about that time, mobile phones with built-in cameras started to spread around in our region. I got one and I started to photograph. After a few years, I got my first camera! A compact camera, but that was still great for meNearly a year later, it was stolen, so I got a DSLR, a Nikon D80. The one I am using now. That's just some history
Which artists (off and on dA) inspire you?
Off dA, I really enjoy Abdulaziz bin Ali's photographs. As for photographers from dA, there are many of them! I could say `hellfirediva, ~jjuuhhaa, *DrewHopper, ~warnaiman, `LeashaAHooker, ~Thinking-Silence, =r3novatio and many more. I am sure I forgot to add the names of many great photographers !
What are your pet peeves on dA?
I hate it when someone assumes something about you, and they would stick to that assumption even when they don't have evidence. For example, they assume you do a certain thing for a certain reason. So, you would try hard to explain that that is not why you're doing that certain thing, but they are so brick-headed and they won't try to believe youAlso, those who send rude messages to people for simply no reason, or for a stupid one
What do you think about Deviant Stamps getting DDs?
I don't think there is anything wrong about it. Art is subjective, and it is a communication medium between you and the others. So, I think stamps are art too. If a stamp has a message to be delivered and if it's nicely designed, I don't see why it can't get a DD![]()
What kind of movies are you into?
My favorite genres are Crime, Adventure, Comedy, Sports, and Drama. I do enjoy Sci-fi movies too.
Some of the movies I really liked: The Godfather, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Avatar, Shawshank Redemptions, The Lord of the Rings, The Pianist, Inglourious Basterds , The Hangover , Gladiator , and many more
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thanks a lot for great opportunity, and thanks to everyone for the wonderful support I've had during my stay at deviantART !![]()
dA loves you! So does Narmo
I'd like to say a huge thanks to `uae4u for taking the time to be interviewed.
